Abstract

298,025. Lamson Co., Inc., (Assignees of Cowley, J. T., and Allen, L. C.). Nov. 19; 1927, [Convention date]. Discharging and feeding-devices for endlessbelt conveyers.-Merchandise containers are delivered from a feeder or storage conveyer to a distributing conveyer and subsequently to branch conveyers by the selective actuation of movable deflectors at each branch conveyer whose selection and operation are predetermined and under the control of an operator at a remote point by the, setting of a selecting pin on an auxiliary belt. Containers 4, Fig. 1, from floors A - - D pass down shoots 2 on to a conveyer 6, which normally is at rest, but which can be actuated to convey them on to a conveyer 7 and thence to a spacing device 8. The containers pass from the spacing device 8 at the will of the attendant stationed at 15 on to the conveyer 11 in fixed spaced relation and are carried to whichever deflector 12 and branch conveyer 13 the attendant may have selected by means of the belt 14. The spacing device 8 comprises a short length 16 of inclined roller-way conveyer made in two parts 19, 21 hinged together. The part 19, Fig. 4, is supported by a frame 20 and the part 21 rests on cam members 24 mounted on a shaft carried by a member 22. A shaft 26 carrying a series of spaced corrugated annular flanges 29 is mounted between the device 8 and conveyer 11. Stop members 34 fixed to a cross-member of the frame 36 extend between members 29 towards the device 8 and stop the forward movement of a container when ihe part 21 and the end roller 17 are each in the lowered position. The roller 17 is mounted in a frame 45 which is pivotally connected at the bottom to crank arms 41, 42, Fig. 5, on a shaft 39. A crank arm 40 on the same shaft is connected by a link 46 to a crank 47 pivoted to the frame 48. The crank arm 47 carries a tab 49 of a size and shape to be struck and raised by a selective pin 50 in whatever position it may be on the belt 14. Counterweighted arms 43, 44 extend from the shaft 39 in the opposite direction to the arms 40, 41, 42. A box-like member 51, Fig. 8, having an open top is fixed to the belt 14 and provided at its ends with rollers 52 which run on rails 53. The pin 50 is mounted in a block 59 which is movable along the box 51 and is pressed towards the notched side 56 of the box by a spring. A frame 71, Fig. 13, extends over the belt 14 and is provided with tracks on which is suspended a carriage 73 having a depending push bar 77 for moving the pin 50. A plate 78 on the carriage has a rack 80 on the underside which meshes with a gear 82 on a shaft 81 driven through bevel gears, &c. by a hand-wheel 96. The bearing for the hand-wheel carries an indicating segment 98, Fig. 17, having a series of circular depressions 100 which are engaged by a ball in the pointer 99. The ratio of the gearing is such that the movement of the pointer 99 from one depression to the next will cause a movement of the bar 77 sufficient to move the pin 50 from one notch 58 to the next. Each of the deflectors for transferring containers from the conveyer 11 to the branch conveyers comprises a bar 102 mounted in an upright 103, Fig. 22, which carries at its lower end a crank-arm 108. A link 111, bell crank lever 109 and link 115 connect the arm 108 to a crank-arm 114 on a shaft 112 from which a tab 116 depends into the path of the pin 50. When the pin strikes the tab, the deflector is swung across the conveyer, and is retained in this position by a latch 125, Fig. 20, which is disengaged when a receptacle depresses the tab 127 arranged on the conveyer 13. The pin 50 is returned to initial position by means of a pin and setting bar 129 secured to the frame of the belt 14 beyond the last deflector 12.
