Abstract
297,755. Mills, K. S. March 22, 1927. Hank-type apparatus; dipping-apparatus.- Apparatus as in Specification 267,989 is modified in the following respects to adapt it for hank dyeing and other treatment. (a) The rotatable screwed rod is supported at points along its length by bearings adapted not to interfere with the travel of the hank carrier. In one modification, Fig. 16, the external diameter 11 of a split. intermediate bearing is tapered. Alternatively carriers with double hooks may be provided to bridge any gap. (b) The screwed rod, may be made in sections. (c) To economize fluid the tanks may have wide ends 13, 14, Fig. 4, where the hank is immersed and withdrawn. The bottom of the tank may be shaped to follow the line traced by the lowest part of the carrier. (d) The hank carrier may be counterbalanced by an adjustable weight 16, Fig. 12, and may comprise a frame 24 suspended from a pin 18 on the carrier. This frame 24 supports a roller 25 introduced into slots 28, Fig. 17, and the roller has end discs 29 adapted to run on ledges 30 of the tank, thereby rotating the roller 25. A lower roller 31 keeps the hank extended. Alternatively the uppar and lower rollers 25, 31 may be supported in slots 33 formed in a frame 32. Fig. 14. (e) Means for squeezing liquor from the hanks may be provided. Two counterweighted bell-crank levers 36. Fig. 20, are adapted to rotate when released from the cam holding arms 34, to engage the ends of the lower hank rnller 31. and bring the latter against a rotated squeezing roller 37. A motor to rotate the cam shaft 35 and the roller 37 may .be started and stopped by switches operated by the carrier 15 as it travels along the screwed rod 6. The motor may alternatively be stopped by means operated from the cam shaft 35. (1) A spacing- arrangement for the marshalling and spacing of carriers on the screwed rod is provided. Two sections 6<a>, 6<b>, Figs. 24 and 25, are separated by a section 6<c> having a very slight thread. An escapement linkage comprise links 38, 39 pivoted at 40, 41, connected by a pin and slot 42, and normally pulled by a spring 43 against a stop 44. The ends 45, 46 of the links lie in the path of the carriers which have double hooks. The leading hook of the first carrier has a notch 48, Fig. 27, which can pass the end 45 but not the end 46; all the rear hooks of the carriers have notches 49, Figs. 26 and 27, which pass both ends 45 and 46, and all the leading hooks of succeeding carriers after the first have ends 47 which engage both ends 45, 46. The leading carrier after passing the end 45, tilts the end 46, and rocks the levers 38, 39 so as to tilt the end 45 and pass the next carrier.
