Brass, wood, and like wind instruments having bends are provided with an opening through which condensed moisture escapes continuously, the opening being plugged with wire gauze, sponge, a mass of fine wire or other porous material which maintains the continuity of the tube. Fig. 4 shows one form in which the wire gauze a is contained in a holder c which screws into a chamber e surrounding the water outlet f in the tube d. The holder c and chamber e are provided with side openings e<1> which are normally in register and allow the moisture to escape continuously. The holder c can be rotated to prevent the escape of moisture if desired. The chamber e can be extended as shown in Fig. 6 to provide a reservoir for the moisture passing through the gauze a. The moisture is removed from the reservoir, when convenient, through an opening h. Fig. 10 shows a further modification in which the gauze a is contained in a cylinder arranged longitudinally within another cylinder, both having holes k, p which can be brought into or out of register by a movement of the inner cylinder. A reservoir t may be attached.
