Abstract

295,552. Sunderland Forge & Engineering Co., Ltd., and Marr, W. B. Jan. 31, 1928. Electromagnets. - A rotary electromagnet for actuating the brake of an electric winch, windlass or the like comprises in the construction shown a pair of stationary poles h, j with windings k, arranged in a casing d. The armature consists of a bar magnet a which may carry windings g and is mounted on a spindle b to which is secured an arm n disposed outside the casing and connected by a link p to the brake lever q. The brake is preferably spring applied and when the windings are energized the armature swings from the position shown through an arc which is less than a semi-circle to release the brake. The magnet a may be stationary and the poles h. j be arranged to swing about it.
