Checking receipts; voucher-issuing. - The sales keyboard of a change giving machine of the subtracting type is adapted to operate cash registering mechanism and also mechanism for receipt printing and issuing. The cash register mechanism comprises counting mechanism 206 actuated by swinging bars 201 - - 204 operated from feet 205 on the finger keys, Fig. 1, and may be rendered dead-beat, as illustrated in Figs. 21, 23 with respect to the farthings keys. A shaft 220 is rotated by the depression of any arm 221, 222, 223. Pin and slot couplings provide lost motion of twothirds of a stroke for the arm 221. and of one-third of a stroke for the arm 222, so that if the arm 223 rotates the shaft 220 to cause the counter to register three-farthings, the arms 222, 221 will cause it to register a half-penny and a farthing respectively. The counter is operated by a pinion on a ratchet plate 231, carrying a, pawl 232 to engage a ratchet wheel 233 which actuates the counter. A stop wheel 234 is connected to the wheel 233, and its teeth are engaged by rollers 235 carried on pivoted arms 236 urged towards each other by a spring 237. As soon as the drive is taken off the ratchet 233, the rollers 235 enter between teeth of the stop wheel 234 and render the counter mechanism dead-beat. Additional cash register mechanism 208 for purchases exceeding a pound is indicated in Fig. 1. This mechanism does not operate in conjunction with the change delivery mechanism. The receipt printing and issuing mechanism is shown in Fig. 26. Lugs n<5> - - n<9> on the stems of the keys K rock bell-cranks m<1> - - m<4> to actuate type-bars n<10>. The lugs n<7>, n<8> of oppositely arranged keys of the shillings rows operate the bell-cranks m<3>, and the lugs n' on the sales keys from ten to nineteen shillings additionally operate the bell-crank m<4> to actuate a type bar to add the figure one in front of the units digit imprinted by the lugs n<8>. Specification 221,654, [Class 116, Shop &c. accessories], dealing with the operation of type bars from sales keys, is referred to. The printing is effected on perforated paper V, carried by a perforated roll V<1>, which is adapted to be fed one step at a time by teeth V<2> on a feed-roll V<3>. A date-printing roll V<4> is mounted on a spindle engaged by a. slot V<5> in a sector V<6> operated by linkage from the shaft 17 of the gear 19. Movement of the sector V<6> rotates a drum V<7> having teeth V<8> adapted to engage the perforations in the paper V, and a lever V' rotates the drum V<3>. On the operative stroke of a hand-lever 20, the slot V<5> moves the roller V<4> away from the paper and the teeth V<8> move to the position shown. The printed element of paper V is simultaneously fed down by a pawl T. On the return stroke of the lever 20, the roller V<4> is moved forward by the slot V<5> to print the date, and holds the strip while the teeth V<8> tear off the piece last printed so that it falls into a, shoot Z leading to the delivery shoot Q. The lever V<9> is slotted to allow lost motion so that the feed-roll does not operate until the roll V<4> has moved from the paper.
