Abstract
295,122. Ploner, F. July 25, 1927. Calculating - apparatus for astronomy and astrology. Relates to apparatus for casting horoscopes, the device being also applicable for ascertaining the times of rising, setting, and other diurnal positions of the sun, moon, and planets. The apparatus consists of two charts one of which is transparent, A showing the positions of the sun, moon and planets, and B the positions of the "cusps" of the "houses" (the Ecliptic being divided into twelve equal " houses " in each of which the "cusp" is the beginning point). The horoscope is conveniently read for any day and the succeeding days by means of a transparent graduated scale or " aspectreticle " C.. The charts A and B are set out according to co-ordinate scales H representing sidereal time and E the celestial longitude, the, signs of the zodiac having 30‹ each. The sidereal time of mean noon at Greenwich gives points on the scale H from which parallels d are: drawn for each day. For these time lines and the scale E the sun, moon, and planet positions are plotted, the moon path being divided every three hours for reading mean time. The cusps of the twelve houses are plotted on the chart B similarly. A scale h equal to H is provided on chart A to read against the point o on chart B. A horoscope, is found by setting the mark o against the time of day of scale h, local time; then along the line d for the given day a point of the moon-line m is found from which a distance is travelled along the graduated moonline equal to the Greenwich time equivalent to the given day-time. Through the point so found the vertical line R of the recticle C is placed, the intersection thereof and the sun, moon, planet, and house cusp lines giving the horoscope. Using the symmetry of the charted curves a more compact form of charts is made as shown at Figs. 3 and 4. For portable forms the chart B and reticle C are made in the form of transparent bands working round a stiff card base carrying the chart B.
