Abstract

292,934. Toth, S. June 23, 1927, [Convention date]. Indicating -mechanism; pendulum - weight apparatus.-In an automatic weighing machine the rotating pointer spindle is held stationary in space by more than two members all positively moved by parts of the mechanism of the machine, the members having balanced pulls or reactions on the pointer spindle which cause it to rotate without movement in space, stop means being provided, if desired, on the spindle to prevent longitudinal movement. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the load on the platform 1 depresses a lever 4 and by means of a rod 11 rocks two arms 14 connected by a knife-edged track 25 and carrying a pendulum weight 15. The spindle 20 of the indicating pointer 19 rests on the track and is caused to roll thereon by tapes 18, 23 connected respectively to a segment 17 on one arm 14 and to a segment 24 carried by a loaded lever 9 provided for counterbalancing .the platform and its connections. The tapes 18, 23 are attached to cylindrical portions of the spindle of different diameters and wind spirally thereon to permit the pointer to make more than one revolution without fouling the tapes. The successive revolutions of the pointer are indicated by an additional pointer moving with some other part of the machine, such for example, as the rod 6 or 11, the band 18 or 23 or the lever 4, 9 or 14. In a modification, instead of the track 25, the unoccupied arm 14 also carries a segment 17 with a tape passing round the spindle, and a second tape similar to the tape 23 may be carried down to a segment on the lever 9. In a further modification, Fig. 3. the indicator spindle 20 is in rolling contact with the sector 17 and is controlled by tapes 18, 23. In a further modification, Fig. 4, the rolling track 25 for the indicator spindle is carried on a rod 6 connecting the segment 17 with the counterbalance lever 9, The segment 17 may be dispensed with by attaching the upper end of the band 18 to the top of the rolling surface.
