Abstract
292,805. Hebenstreit, K. O. Aug. 25, 1927. Waffle and like baking-apparatus. - A machine for baking hollow cakes, biscuits, &c. comprises core-fitted moulds, which are formed of mating halves 78, carried one rigidly and the other pivotally by castings 6 on the driving-shaft 2; gas burners 39, 40, 44 are furnished for heating the moulds and cores, and means are provided for opening and closing the moulds, for filling them with dough from a pump outside the machine frame and operated positively from the driving-shaft, for removing and reintroducing the cores, and for locking and unlocking the moulds and cores, all the operations being performed during one involution of the shaft. The cares are carried by holders 11 slidably mounted on radial rods 10 connected to the fixed mould parts 7, the holders having rollers 12 which, as the shaft turns, are adapted to be engaged by a cam track formed by rails 13, 14. For securing the cores within the moulds during the baking portion of the operation a turn-button 30 on each mould part 7 is fitted with a star-wheel 31 adapted to strike abutments 32 on the machine frame whereby the buttons are turned through angles of 90‹ to unlock, and then to lock, the core. In order to lock the mould parts together the part 8 may carry a lever 19, Fig. 11, connected to a hook adapted to engage a button on the part 7; the lever is fitted with a roller 20 which, as the shaft and moulds rotate, comes into engagement with a cam track formed by rails 21, 22 for temporarily disengaging the hook. Or an arm on the mould part 8 may be connected to a double-armed locking-lever on the part 7, control of the mechanism, for locking and unlocking, being effected by engagement of rollers at the ends of the locking-lever with stops on the machine frame. The gas for heating the moulds and cores is introduced through a duct 37 in the shaft 2 and it passes on through a distributor 38 to pipes leading to the burners. Batter from the trough 63, Fig. 5, is supplied to the moulds through a nozzle 76 connected by a flexible pipe to a pump 62 and suction pipe 61. The pump is actuated at the appropriate intervals by cams 49, 50 on a shaft 48 driven from the gear-wheel 4 serving to drive the main shaft 2, the cams being arranged to co-operate with rollers 47 on a slide 51 to which is pivoted one end of a lever 57 connected to the pump piston 60 and mounted on an adjustable pivot pin 56. For supplying the batter to the moulds, the nozzle 76 is adapted to be turned in a vertical plane and it is mounted at the end of a double-armed lever 75, Fig. 6, which by cams 65, 66, Fig. 5, pins 71, 72, a lever 70 and a link 73 is at the necessary times turned to a substantially vertical position as indicated in broken lines in Fig. 6. The nozzle holder 79 has a pinion 77 in engagement with a rack 78 and it also has a pin 80 in engagement with a slot 81 in the rack; this rack is pivoted at 82 to another arm 84 pivoted at 74 under the control of a spring 83. When the pin 80 reaches the outer end of the slot 81 further movement of the lever 75 causes the arm 84 to rock in opposition to the spring, and in this way the nozzle is made to maintain the same inclination while travelling, with the mould, from the position y to the position x.
