Abstract

292,698. Williams, J. G., and Roaring, H. W. March 26, 1927. Rolling-machines.-Dough-rolling machines, of the type comprising superposed endless bands carrying the dough between resisting boards, are constructed so that one band can be tilted bodily relatively to the other and means are provided for driving both ends in the same direction continuously to perform rolling-operations or for reversing the drive at intervals to enable the machine to function as a dough break. Fig. 1 shews a lower band 2 running over three rollers 5, 6, 7 of which 5 is adjustable by the screw 71 to vary the tension, while 6 is driven from a countershaft 23 by a compound spur train, and is geared to 7 by a chain 70. By the manipulation of belt-shifting mechanism through the medium of the hand lever 45, the shaft 23 can be driven in either direction from the belt pulley shaft 37 or remain at rest. Both ends of the upper belt 1 are adjustable, the bearings of the roller 9 at one end being adjustable simultaneously by screw and worm gear 16, 18 while the other end is adjusted (1) by the screw mechanism 62 to vary the thickness of the rolled sheet and (2) by the bodily tilting movement of the belt about the axis of the roller 9 through the medium of the pivoted legs 64 operated by rack- and-pinion gear 80 furnished with ratchet sustaining gear. A scraper 82 and brush 83 can be moved into position alternatively to clean the lower band. For rolling operations the two belts are parallel, but for dough-breaking operations the belts are arranged at an angle and the drive is reversed to roll it alternately in opposite directions.
