Abstract
291,865. Roberts, J. H. T. March 8, 1927. Electric appliances.-An electro-therapeutic hair brush comprises a discharge tube or similar resistance and condenser applicator device whereby high-frequency high-tension electric current is conveyed to the back of the brush and means whereby this current is spread over substantially the entire bristle area thereof. As shown, a branched exhausted glass tube electrode 2 is mounted within the brush back or case 1, and the shank 4 of the electrode terminates in a metal cap 5 adapted to be inserted in a handle 6, Fig. 4. The bristles may be in the form of short tubular glass prongs on the branches of the electrode, which is then preferably provided with a resilient mounting as in rubber, and the prongs may also be tipped or enveloped in insulating-material such as rubber or ebonite. As shown in Fig. 4 the bristles 10 are carried by a convex rubber sheet 9 of which the front and/or back is coated or faced with metal paint, bronze powder, or foil, or like conducting-material 11, 12 so that they are all connected together electrically; or the back of the brush may be of metal or a metal sheet be inserted in the brush for the bristle roots to make contact with, as when the brush is pressed against the head. The bristles may be of metal either left bare or tipped or enveloped with rubber. Instead of the high-frequency generating-apparatus 7 being separate from the brush it may be permanently incorporated therein or combined therewith. According to the Provisional Specification, the brush may be formed of glass combs arranged side by side and preferably combined together in a single shank or handle.
