Abstract

291,614. Laronde, M. June 15, 1927. Discharging.-Relates to a ladling machine for taking up material from a container, such as a furnace or melting-pot, carrying it to the working point, and then pouring it, the ladle being so mounted that it can be rotated about three different axes when gathering or pouring. The machine is described as adapted for ladling glass from a furnace and for pouring it on to the table of a rolling - machine. The machine comprises a frame 1, Fig. 1, which runs on rails 2, a carriage 4 which runs on rails on the frame 1, its track being transverse to the rails 2, and circular platform 5 pivoted on the carriage 4. The platform 5 carries a supporting-bracket 7 on which bearings 9 are mounted, and the front end of a cradle 10, Figs. 1 and 5, is journaled in these bearings. The ladle 14 is carried by a shaft 12 which is journaled in a cylindrical member or " cannon " 11. This " cannon " has two cheeks 17 which are secured to a shaft 18, parallel with the shaft 12 and journaled in bearings on the upper part of the cradle 10, and the axis of the shaft 18, if extended, would pass near the pouring lip of the ladle. A counterweight 19 balances the weight of the "cannon" and the ladle. The cradle is tilted about the bearings 9 by a compressedair cylinder 38, and another cylinder, operating a rack 21, swings the " cannon " about the shaft 18. The ladle can be turned by these cylinders about the axes of the shaft 12 or 18, and also about the axis of the bearings 9. These movements enable the ladle to be inserted in the furnace 3 and dipped to gather metal, and then withdrawn and moved to deposit the charge on the table of a rolling machine. Movement of the " cannon " about the shaft 18 is obtained by means of a strap 26, Figs. 1 and 6, loosely mounted on the shaft, which is connected by a rigid rod 30 with the frame of the machine. A pawl 28 on the strap engages teeth on a wheel 25 which gears with another wheel on the shaft 12, and movement of the cradle about the bearings 9 turns the " cannon " about the shaft 18 and also rotates the ladle about its axis in either of these movements. Means are provided for locking the " cannon " to the cradle when desired, and a handwheel 29 is provided to enable the ladle to be turned or to be moved from the furnace in case the air supply should fail.
