Abstract

291,095. Gilbert Co., A. C., (Assignees of Anketell, E. N.). May 27, 1927, [Convention date]. Model machines; mechanical constructions, details for building up.-A toy hoisting mechanism comprises a plurality of winding-drums mounted between detachably - connected, perforated, flanged side-members, one drum being driven from a source of power and capable of being connected to or disconnected from the other drum so that the drums may be jointly or individually rotated. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the hoisting mechanism comprises three drums 20, 26, 32 each secured to a shaft rotatable within Holes 18 in side members 10 having perforated flanges 12. The device may be bolted to a perforated base plate 16 in any desired position. The foremost drum 20 is rotated by a crank 23 to raise or lower the jib 71, and may be locked in position by a pivoted pawl 25 engaging a gear-wheel 24. The intermediate drum 26 is connected by a cord 84 to the framework of a grab 70, while the rearmost drum 32 controls the opening and closing of the grab through a cord 82. The drum 32 is driven by a reversible electric motor 52 through a worm 50 and gear train 49, 47, 46, 45, 34. The drum 26 is normally held stationary by a brake 31, but rotates with the drum 32 when a pinion 35 meshing with the wheel 34 is moved into gear with a wheel 29 upon the operation of a control lever 38. In a modification the mechanism may be driven by hand, the shaft 36 of the pinion 35 being provided for the purpose with a crank handle. As shown in Fig. 9, the invention is applied to a slewing crane, the mast 105 and jib 100 being supported by a pivoted base plate of channel section. Specification 284,328 is referred to.
