Abstract
290,369. Jeremiassen, F. Feb. 14. 1927. Crystallizing.-In an apparatus for crystallizing salt &c. a circulating solution, supersaturated by evaporation or cooling, flows down through a channel passed through a collection of granules, towards the bottom of which is directed upwardly from a pipe a portion of the solution which is not or only slightly supersaturated, the solution then flowing in an upward direction through the granules to deposit the crystals. The solution is circulated by a centrifugal pump 1 from a heater 2 through a pipe 3 into an evaporator 4 and down a central pipe 5 to a space between the granules 7, which rest on a perforated bottom 6. The solution is here met by a jet of solution passing from the pipe 3 through the pipes 9, 10 and circulates up through the granules, where the crystals are deposited, and back to the heater through the pipe 8. The crystals are removed by a fall pipe from the bottom 6. When it is desired to remove excess of small crystals from the circulating solution the cock 12 is closed and the crystals removed from the connection 10. The pipe connections are arranged at elevated points to facilitate emptying of the heater for cleaning purposes without removing a substantial portion of the liquid and crystals.
