Angular bending; mandrels.-In a machine for bending tubes, angle or channel sections &c., of the kind consisting of a fixed former around which the article is bent by a rotatable former, the latter is mounted on an axis eccentric to that oi the arm which drives it so that after the bend is effected the driving arm is released from engagement therewith and continues its motion alone during which period the bent tube &c. is removed and a new one inserted. The work is secured by a screw clamp e operated by a ratchet lever r to a fixed former f on a pivot h on which is mounted the bending member k, l. This member is provided in the limb k with a grooved block m engaged by a screw adjusted roll n, and in the limb l, which is tangential to the former, with a mandrel q and a striking plate p. The striking plate is engaged by a roller d<1> on an arm d secured to a worm wheel b, which is mounted on a spindle i eccentric to the pivot h and rotated by a worm c. The roller d<1> thus turns the member k, l to the desired angle to bend the tube &c. and then moves past it, whereupon the mandrel may be withdrawn, the clamp released and the bent tube replaced by a new tube without stopping the drive. The mandrel is secured to the arm l by a pin t. Specification 223,803 is referred to.
