Abstract

288,964. Backstay Machine & Leather Co., (Assignees of Schemmel, R. C.). April 16, 1927, [Convention date]. Trimmings.-Relates to a finishing welt primarily for trimming, automobile bodies and comprising a relatively flat tape-like article made from leather or leather substitutes surmounted by a pair of parallel beads between which the rails are intended to be concealed, and. consists in a construction which facilitates bending or following shaped contours. As shown, the welt comprises a strip 5 doubled round longitudinal cords 7 of twisted paper or the like and enclosing a, doubled filler strip 9 of flexible material, stitching 11 maintaining the latter in place. Metallic flexible linings 12 are inserted in the folded edges of the strip 5 and serve to maintain it in shape without puckering when the welt is turned out of the straight. The metallic lining 12 may be straight or coiled or one may be straight and the other coiled. The cords 7 may be metallic bead wires.
