Syringes and the like appliances.-A surgical irrigator comprises a tube 8 connected at 7 by a flexible tube with the source of irrigating liquid, and having screwed thereto at 17 a nozzle comprising a conical perforated enlargement 9. The tube 8 is slidably supported by a bearing 11 in a hollow obturator 21 and is formed with a flange 12 for convenient manipulation. Four dilating arms 14 surrounding the tube 8 are formed with lateral slots 16 engaging and pivoting about the edges 19 of a cruciform slot in the lower wall of the member 21. The arms 14 are expended by the engagement of bosses thereon with the conical portion of the nozzle 9 and are contracted by the axial withdrawal of the tube 8. The apparatus can be readily dismantled for cleaning and sterilization by unscrewing and withdrawing the tube 8, whereupon the arms. 14 are immediately removable. The obturator 21 is provided with a permanently inflated rubber ring 24 resiliently secured upon a flange 22 and with apertures 26 permitting the removal of irrigating liquid through a nozzle 25 and a rubber tube attached thereto.
