Abstract

Rollers, hand and garden; moving-tool and similar soil-working implements; transporting; travelling gear.-Apparatus for levelling and smoothing hard tennis courts and like surfaces comprises a carriage mounted on wheels or rollers and connected to an apron of netting or other material which drags along the ground as the carriage is pulled forward, means being provided for giving the matting &c. a waggling or irregular movement. The carriage shown in Fig. 2 comprises a frame 1 provided with a handle 3 and mounted on the axle 4 of a divided roller 2. The matting apron 5 is detachably attached to a frame or bar 6 which is actuated by bellcrank levers 7, 8, and forked bars 9 ,10 carrying antifriction rollers 11, 12 engaging with cams or eccentrics 13, 14 on the axle 4. Additional means may be provided for waggling the rear end of the matting. The matting may be in sections detachably connected together. When not required for use it may be rolled up on a roller 15 provided with a crank handle 18 and pawl and ratchet mechanism 19, the rear end of the mat. ting being connected to the roller by a length of thin flexible material. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the matting apron 5 is attached to a bar 23 connected by pivoted links 25, 26 to a similar bar 24, the links 25, 26 being mounted on the opposite cranks 22 of the cranked axle 4 of a pair of wheels 20. A traction cord 27 is fastened to the bar 24 and passes round a pulley 28 on the handle 29.
