Abstract
287,218. Trodahl, H. C., and White, R. H. P. Dec. 14, 1926. Digging-apparatus. -An excavator comprises a base A carrying at the front an arcuate trough B in which a digging member D oscillates about an axis C coinciding with the centre of curvature of the trough; the digging member, comprises a preferably serrated cutting edge D4, a shoot plate into the trough and, during the return stroke of the digging member, being pushed by the ram D5 over a shoot B1 to a conveyer Q. The digging member is oscillated by links El and cranks, H1, eccentrics or cams driven :by a prime mover J through a countershaft K and clutch. The base A is supported on rollers M1 and feed drums L, or endless tracks; the feed drums are driven by belts or gearing or by ratchet and pawl means operated as by a link N. Pivotally supported and vertically-adjustable wheels 01 are provided, whereby the drums L may be raised from the ground to facilitate turning of the machine. The conveyer Q may be replaced by a screw conveyer or by a conveyer formed of hinged trays and delivers to a shoot T or a second conveyer. The shoot T is carried by a jib S which may be mounted on a turntable. Shearing blades A may be attached to the trough B or may be arranged to oscillate.
