Presses, mechanical.-In a press, the platen is operated by two or, more non-circular rollers co-operating with each other and engaging the platen guides. As shown, the platen 4 is carried by a frame guided in recesses 2 in the table 1 and is forced downwardly by a pair of oval rollers 5, 6 adapted to engage respectively bearings depending from the table 1 and bearings 7 on the frame 3. The rollers may gear by teeth and recesses 8. Cams 9 at the ends of the roller 5 engage members 3<1> to raise the platen. The roller 6 is formed with a squared end 10 to receive an operating-handle.
