Abstract

286,539. Rickets, W. J., and Davis, R. K. July 9, 1927. Direct-call systems.-In a system comprising a central station and one or more out stations such as divers, the transmitter and receiver at each station being in series and current being supplied from a battery through a common choke, the central station is provided with a switch 9, for connecting the choke 7 to any of the out stations or to two or more at a time and with a speaking switch 11. The out stations can call up by operating switches 22 to sound a bell or buzzer 23, 23a, and are called by means of a switch 30 which operates a buzzer 28 to give a signal on the distant receiver 6. Lamps 27 may be provided for giving a visual indication when an out station is selected. The speaking switch 11 and microphone are shunted by a condenser to enable the central station to hear without pressing the switch. Condensers are provided. if necessary in shunt to the bell and buzzer to enable one-way communication to be maintained via the line 4 if the line 1 breaks, but preferably the calling instruments are made of low inductance instead, by providing them with an additional short-circuited winding. A loud-speaker 20 may be substituted for the receiver 6a. In a modification, the lamp signals 27 and line wire 4a &c. and the buzzer 28 are omitted.
