Guards and protectors.-Expanding pulley gearing is protected by a casing which comprises integral rear and front plates D, F, Fig. 2, with a connecting strip E of sheet metal enclosing the entire driving pulley, there being a removable upper portion E3, Fig. 1. Hand-wheels.-The gearing is controlled by a hand-wheel J, Fig. 2, outside the casing. This is locked by a spring K, Fig. 1, engaging notches J<3> in the periphery of the hand-wheel.
