Abstract

284,507. Dubbs, C. P. April 29, 1927. Hydrocarbons, cracking. - In a process for cracking hydrocarbon oils, in which the oils are heated under pressure to cracking temperature in the pipes 7 of a furnace 8 and are then passed into a reaction chamber 11 under reduced pressure, the vapours produced being passed through a dephlegmator 2 and condenser 17 to a collection chamber 18, the incondensable gases produced in the reaction are led from the chamber 18 through tubes 28 in a separate furnace 29 where they are superheated substantially above the temperature in the furnace 8 and then injected through a pipe 35 into the liquid in the reaction chamber 11. The crude oil is passed from a pipe 1 through the dephlegmator 2 to condense the heavier reaction products and the mixture obtained is forced into the tubes 7 by a pump 5. The incondensable gases may be obtained from an outside source and the supply to the tubes 28 may be regulated by adjustment of a valve 26<a> on a bye pass 26. The oils are preferably heated to about 850‹ F. in the cracking zone under a pressure of 300 lbs. per square inch while the incondensable gases are heated to 1200-1500‹ F. Specification 249,604 is referred to.
