Abstract
283,705. General Electric Co., Ltd., and Angold, A. E. Dec. 7, 1926. Contacts. - Laminated switch contacts are formed of a number of laminations of equal dimensions which are clamped together by a cotter and bolt passing through holes or recesses in the laminations which are also of equal dimensions and are uniformly disposed with respect thereto. The laminations are arranged so that the contacting edge of the brush is at an angle with the sides and spacers or strips forming part of a flexible lead are inserted between adjacent laminations. As shown in Fig. 1, the stationary laminated brush 3 consists of alternate laminations 1. Fig. 2, and spacers 19, Fig. 3, which are formed with elongated perforations 5, 20 to allow the entry of a cotter 4 and gib 16 to clamp them in the holder 2. The cotter 4 is parallel sided where it passes through the brush, but is wedge-shaped where it passes through the limbs of the holder 2. A triangular block mav be inserted between the brush and the upper side 13 of the holder 2, which may, alternatively, be inclined parallel to the side of the brush. The rear ends of the laminations extend beyond the spacers so that they may be bent against the rear side 12 of the holder 2 as the cotter is driven home. The cotter may be terminated in a screwed stem provided with a nut for securing it in position. The outer end of the brush is engaged by a movable switch bar 24. In the modification shown in Fig. 4, the laminations are clamped together by inclined blocks 29, 30 secured by a bolt 32 passing through elongated holes in the laminations and being provided with a nut 33. Some or all of the spacers are continued backwards to form a laminated flexible lead 35 secured in a block 36. The contact 26 is clamped by a bolt 40 between the pivoted arms 38 which are rotated to bring it into engagement with a fixed contact block 41.
