Coating confectioners' goods. - Apparatus for coating confectionery or the like comprises, in combination with a hopper for the coating-material, a pair of hollow rollers at the hopper outlet, a conveyer belt for the goods below one of the rollers, means for heating or cooling the rollers by a fluid medium, and mechanism for driving the rollers and the belt respectively at separately regulatable speeds. ,As shown in Fig. 1, the hopper 1 carries rollers 2, 11 which may be ribbed, and is removable therefrom to 'facilitate cleaning &c., the roller 11 being adjustable, to vary the thickness of the applied coating, by a screw 10. The coating is applied, by the roller 2, to the goods carried by a belt 22 which may be of cloth or steel provided with spikes, flutings or the like to assist in holding the goods. The belt 22 is held up to the roller 2 by a roller 28 carried by weighted levers 29 the rocking of which is limited by adjustable screws 30. The upper course of the belt is also supported by a table 16 vertically adjustable by a yoke 17, screw 18 and handwheel 19. Correct tracking is ensured by rotary discs 31 between which it travels. The effective width of the discharge opening of the hopper may be varied by sluices close to the rollers 2, 11, movable inwards and outwards parallel to the axes of the rollers. The main shaft 40, driven by a motor 41, pulley 42 and gears 43, 44 has upon it two expanding pulleys, one of which 45 is shown. These pulleys are connected by belts (not shown) to expanding pulleys 46, 47 on shafts 7, 24. The two pairs of expanding pulleys are separately adjustable by known mechanism, portions of which are shown at 6, 25, so that the speeds of the shafts 7, 24 and consequently the speeds of the rollers and the belt are independently variable. The roller 11 is driven from the roller 2 by spur gears 12, 13 and sprocket gears 14, 15. The heating or cooling fluid is admitted to the hollow rollers from a container through hollow axle shafts. The belt 22 is cleaned bv scrapers or the like 32, the waste being collected in a receptacle 33. The Provisional Specification states that the machine is used for coating wafers or the like whilst they are still in a warm state from the oven.
