Apparatus for making filaments. - Artificial threads wound on perforated bobbins are washed free from adherent particles or decomposition products by causing, by suction or pressure, air gases or vapours to penetrate with a washing liquid through the wound layer. The threads may be intermittently moistened by dipping, spraying, &c., and the air &c. with the liquid caused to penetrate during the intervals. Ammonia or other neutralizing gases may be employed. A separate washing liquid may be dispensed with, vapours which during the penetration are partially or entirely condensed to liquids being employed.
