Fixed-chamber apparatus, valve systems for, varying quantity measured in.-A measuredquantity apparatus of the kind comprising a closed measuring-vessel which is filled completely and is emptied to selected levels to dispense a desired quantity is fitted with a transverse control shaft fitted with devices which prevent the beginning of a dispensing-operation before the measuring-vessel is full, and other inaccuracies. The apparatus shown comprises a measuring vessel wih four quantity-selecting outflow tubes 13 controlled each by a. lift valve 17 arranged between the outflow tube 13 and the delivery tube 20, and controlled by levers 27 pivoted on a shaft 28<1> and operated by a cam-shaft 32, which is rotated by a hand-operated crank-shaft 39 and suitable gearing 34-37. The measuring- chamber is filled by a pump 43 and a pipe 41. To effect the, delivery of a desired quantity of liquid, a pointer 50 is slid horizontally along a scale until it indicates the desired quantity,. carrying with it a cam 52 slidably keyed on the shaft 32. The rotation of the crank-shaft 39, and the consequent rotation of the cam-shaft, opens the valve 17 corresponding to the desired quantity, which is delivered through the pipes 13, 20. A totalizing-counter is operated by fourrods 56 and corresponding pawls and ratchet gearing 58. To prevent the operation of the pump while the, liquid is being withdrawn, a cam 60 depresses a rod 61, the lower end of which engages in a recess 62 in the hand-wheel 44 driving the pump 43. A guide bar 85, with slots 86 in the vertical plane of each valve 17, prevents the rotation of the cam 52 until it is properly positioned opposite one of the valves and one of the slots. The rollers 31 on the levers 27 are grooved to prevent the cam 52 from being displaced when in operation. To prevent. a dispensing-operation from commencing until the measuring-chamber is full, the upper part of the chamber is fitted with a piston which, when the liquid lifts it, lifts a rod 65 and lever 66, removing a detent 68 from a disc 70, and freeing the cam-shaft 32. A drain valve is fitted on the supply pipe 41; it resembles the valves 17, is similarly operated, and serves as a safety-valve. As shown, one revolution of the crank-shaft 39 causes half a revolution of the cam-shaft 52, but the gears 36, 38 may be made equal, with consequential modifications of the apparatus.
