Abstract
279,688. Rodman, J. B. Feb. 1, 1927. Indicators actuated by pressure of head of liquid.-A means for indicating the head or volume of liquid in a container C comprises a vessel A located at the bottom of the container and communicating at A<2> with the liquid therein, and at A<3> with a second vessel D which in turn communicates with a pipe E of small bore having an indicating gauge F at the end thereof. Glycerine or like liquid of suitable specific gravity G partly fills the two vessels A, D which are fianged inwardly as shown for intercommunication. Fig. 2 shows a modified form of the apparatus in which the vessel D<1> is of double conical formation to more accurately compensate for temperature effects in the system. An increase of temperature and consequent expansion of fluid in the upper part of the vessel D<1> tending to lower the level of liquid therein, is compensated for, by the rapid increase of surface acted on, and vice versa. In a further modification for ensuring a correct reading until the tank C is practically empty, the contanier A communicates at the top through a pipe which is led therefrom to the bottom of the tank.
