Ornamenting. - Ornaments, such as brilliants encrusted 'in a layer of celluloid material covering wooden heels of shoes, ornaments in combs or toys, pearls, metal caps, fancy brass nails, or other ornaments which are encrusted or gummed on the surface to be ornamented, are retained in place by covering the whole of the surface or of the ornaments, or the edges only of the ornaments, with a transparent coating which adheres strongly to the surface of the ornamented article. The transparent coating may be tinted and may be applied by spraying, brushing, or dipping. If desired, the coating may be applied to the ornament by applying a solvent to the coating and thus covering the ornament with a layer of plastic coating which subsequently sets.
