Abstract
278,175. Blakeborough, R. A., Tart, H., and Lindsay, J. Sept. 29,1926. Travelling-band strainers.-A strainer of the type comprising an endless chain of screen members is enclosed in a casing a having flanged inlet and outlet openings a<1>, a<2> for inclusion in a pipe line. The screen members e<4> are fixed to chains passing round wheels c<1> d<1>. The pivot pins e' of the chain links have antifriction rollers e<2> which are guided by vertical strips g provided on the inside of the casing. End covers a<3>, a<4> carry curved sealing plates f, f<1> which ensure that liquid passes through both stretches of the strainer on its way from the inlet a<1> to the outlet a<2>. If the covers are removed and one pivot pin released, the upper chain wheels, chains, and strainer panels may be removed as a unit. The upper chain wheels may be driven by chain gearing and reducing spur gearing from the shaft m of an electric motor. The panels are cleansed by outward passage of liquid into a box o, the outlet valve p of which is opened intermittently by a cam r on the motor shaft. A second box to which cleaning liquid under pressure is supplied may be situated within the strainer opposite the box o.
