Fibrous plastic compositions.-Fibres in sheet form such as paper, fabric, &c., are coated or impregnated with a synthetic resin and the fibres are separated by mechanical means before, during, or after drying, in such a manner as to preserve the fibres intact with as little breakage as possible, the use of cutting or shredding machines being avoided. The scutched mass is moulded under heat and pressure to convert the synthetic resin into the insoluble and infusible state. Additional binding material may be added during or after separation of the fibres, for example by blowing or spraying powder over the fibres, or by application in liquid form. In an example, paper web having 35 per cent of synthetic resin is opened in a beating engine, 15 per cent of powdered synthetic resin is added, and the fluffy mass is moulded.
