Abstract

276,853. Aktiebolaget Spontan, and Ljungstrom, r. Oct. 14, 1926. Variable speed and reversing ratchet gearing comprises an element 6, Figs. 1 and 2, to which alternate positive and negative rotary impulses are imparted, and means for driving a shaft 9 therefrom forwardly or reversely at will comprising a reversible roller clutch A and a like reversible detent B. In the arrangement shown, planetary eccentric masses 7 carried by planet gears 3 in a driving fly-wheel 2 impart the impulses to the gear 6 in a yielding manner so that the speed transmitted varies automatically with the load. The gear 6 is secured to a sleeve 8 which envelops both the one-way devices. The clutch A drives a sleeve 10 fast on the shaft 9, and the detent B comprises a central stationary sleeve 11. There are clutch rollers 33 and detent rollers 34 arranged as shown in Fig. 6 between the sleeve 8 and flats 35, 36 on the sleeves 10, 11. The rollers are supported in two cages 37. Fig. 13, having partitions 39 between adjacent rollers carrying plate springs 38. Reversal of each grip device is effected by a relative turning of its cage 37, and the cages are operated in unison by the axial sliding of two coupled cam sleeves 42, 43, Fig. 1. Pins 49 pass through slots in the rotary sleeve 8 and are moved axially by a non-rotary cylinder 53 sliding within a fixed casing 12 and controlled by a lever 58 operated by a hand lever 60. The detent sleeve 11 is.preferably held fast normally by a gripping spring 69, Fig. 5, which acts through brake blocks 70. In the event of the control cylinder 53 being obstructed, the pivot 64, Fig. 1, of the lever 58 yields, and, through a linkage 66 and wedge 68, opens the spring 69 so as to free the sleeve 11 and disable the detent. Interlocking teeth 54 prevent the sleeve 8 from turning during the operation of reversing the drive. In a simpler construction, the spring brake 69 is replaced by a multiple-platel device. Lubrication is effected by oil passing in near the detent and passing radially outwards into the toothed gearing 6, 3.
