Abstract

276,236. Hart, M. Feb. 14, 1927. Caps.-A bathing cap has an inflatable band around its head-engaging portion. At the lower edge of the cap is a circular tube 10 provided with a felt strip 12 on its inner side and a band 13 of non-stretchable fabric on its outer side. To inflate. the tube, a bulb 14 is provided with non-return valves 16, 17, a spring 20 expanding the bulb when it has been compressed, to force air into the tube. The internal diameter of the tube decreases when it is inflated, so that it presses against the head to keep water out of the cap. An air-release valve 19 is provided. In a modification, the walls of the bulb are made thick enough to enable the spring 20 to be dispensed with. In an emergency, the user may tear away the cap portion, and place the inflated tube around the neck.
