274,826. Soc. Anon. des Charbons Actifs E. Urbain. July 24, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Spectroscopes. - Comprises a spectroscopic method of gas analysis wherein the intensity of the spectral lines in the ultra-violet region is utilized to determine the gases present in the mixture. The light is caused to traverse a tube containing the gas under test and to be received on a fluorescent screen or a photographic plate. The tube is closed at each end by quartz plates and the lenses &c. through which the light is passed are also made of quartz or fluor-spar. The intensity of the lines may also be indicated by photo-electric cells in conjunction with amplification apparatus and a galvanometer. The positions of the absorption lines and bands are characteristic for each gas in a mixture and the intensity gives a quantitative indication.
