Abstract

274,385. Cosby, E. L. H. March 1C 1927. Handles with recessed-back retaining-devices for brushes.-In brushes of the kind wherein the stock or bristle portion is detachably secured to the brush back in either of two opposite directions, the stock F or a plate H secured thereto is provided with a bridge or bridges J adapted to be engaged by a tongue or tongues D' on a catch member or members D carried by a rod C mounted in slotted lugs B on a plate A secured to the brush back K and held in locking position by springs E, E'. The plate A may have a longitudinal recess A<1> to provide a guide for the catch members D and is preferably secured in a recess in the brush back by means of lugs to the underside of a liner M which is screwed to the back and has a raised portion M<1> with slots M<2> through which project the tongues D<1> of the catches. By pressing on the end C<1> of the rod extending through a hole K<2> in the back the stock F is released from the locking catches and may be detached and replaced in reversed position in the brush back.
