Composite slabs; materials, special, for slabs and tiles.-Material for use as floor or wall tiles panels, &c., consists of a fabric of any material, coated with one or more coatings of a solution of nitrated cellulose dissolved in acetone, alcohol or other solvent, and one or more coatings of an intimate pasty mixture of powdered cork and nitrated cellulose dissolved in acetone, alcohol or other solvent, the surface being finally calendered, goffered or varnished. The nitrated cellulose solution used for the preliminary coats is of a pasty consistency so that it can be spread with a knife. Any proportions of nitrated cellulose and cork may be used, for example, seven volumes of nitrated cellulose to five volumes of powdered cork. After mixing, acetone or other solvent is added to attain the desired pasty consistency. Loading materials may be introduced into the solutions.
