Abstract
272,917. Romanoff, H. June 15, 1926, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Milling-machines. -- In a milling-machine for reproducing profiled articles from a templet, the movements of one or more tools are controlled by means of a pantograph, the tracer of which is moved positively round the templet by means of a pinion driven from the tracer spindle and moving along a path of similar contour to that of the templet. The pantograph consists of a main arm 1 pivoted on a fixed spindle 2 and jointed at 4 and 5 to parallel arms 12, 13. The arm 15, carrying the tracer spindle 44, is jointed at 3 to the main arm and at 14 to the arm 13. The pin 18 forming the joint 3 is provided with a ball end 20 which slides over the table 17. An electro-motor 27 mounted over the pivot 14 is arranged to drive four tools 24 and the tracer spindle 44 by belt gearing as shown in Fig. 2. The tool spindles are carried in bearings 21 22 and are provided with means 23 for adjusting the height of the. tools. The tracer spindle carries a loose roller 46 engaging a templet 47 which is secured to the table by bolts 48. A spring device consisting of a pivoted plate 50 connected through springs 53 with an upper plate 49 loosely mounted on the tracer spindle ensures that the roller is kept in constant engagement with the templet. The tracer-spindle drives through reducing gearing 54 an eccentric pinion 55 engaging a series of pins 56 having the same pitch as the pinion teeth and forming a curve which is equidistant from the projected outline of the templet. Lubrication of the cutters is effected from a pump 58 pivoted on the arm 15, the plunger 60 being operated from an eccentric 61 on the tracer-spindle. The lubrieant is conveyed to the tools from the opening 62 through flexible tubing and is returned to the pump from a reservoir.
