Abstract

272,785. Norton, B. Dec. 24, 1926. Energy - absorbing elements.-To retard wagons running on inclined rails, the rails are in part replaced by a length of resilient material such as rubber. Alternatively, lengths of resilient material may be arranged for engagement by the axles of the vehicles. As shown in Fig. 1, the length of rubber or other material 1 is disposed in a casing 2, 3 of which the part 3 is removable for cleaning or assemblage. The upwardly extending flange 4 of the part 2 engages the wheels 5 of the wagons to keep these in alignment with the metal rails. The wheels or axles sink into the rubber and thus a retarding effect is produced.
