Abstract

272,542. Favre, L. E. June 10, 1926, [Convention date]. Driving; speed regulating.-Relates to sound recording or reproducing machines of the kind wherein, in order that the lingar speed of the record groove in relation to the stylus may be constant, the driving-mechanism comprises a friction wheel which engages the underside of the turntable and is traversed by means of a screw-driven carriage along a radial shaft by which it is rotated. According to the invention, the carriage is mounted on a guide-bar which is movably mounted in such a manner that the carriage can be disengaged from the screw. The motor rotates a vertical spindle 14 which drives. by means of bevel wheels 15, 16, an horizontal shaft 17 on which a wheel 19 is slidably keyed. This wheel has a rubber &c. tyre, frictionally engaging the turntable 10 so as to drive it, and with it the central spindle 11 on which the turntable is mounted. The spindle 11 carries a worm 12 which drives a screw-threaded spindle 22, parallel to the shaft 17. Normally engaging the screw thread is an arm 29 on a member 27 which extends into a groove 33 in a boss on the friction-wheel 19, the part 27 being connected to a carriage 26 slidably mounted on a guide-bar 25. This bar is carried by a support 24 which is mounted on pivots so that it can be turned against the action of a spring 30 into the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 4 in order to move the arm 29 out of engagement with the traversing screw 23. The disengaging movement is for the purpose either of enabling the carriage 26 and the wheel 19 to be returned when necessary to the starting position by means of a hand-operated rod 31, or of allowing the driving- wheel 19 to be freed from the traversing screw when an ordinary record is to be used. A button 28 acting on the end of the rod 25 by an eccentric is provided as the means for rocking the support 24.
