Junction boxes. - The electrical units (fuse-carriers, busbars, cable terminals &c.) of underground distribution boxes are arranged so that they can be raised above the street level and held in a position in which they can convenientlv be worked upon. Several embodiments of the invention are described, in Fig. 1 the bases a of the fuses b, c being mounted on the underside of the distribution box covers d, the ends of the covers when raised being dropped into gutters e so that the fuses are held in a vertical position. In Fig. 2 the fuse bases are pivotally mounted so that when the covers are raised by clamping rods g in guides the fuses may be adjusted to any desired angular position. As shown in Fig. 3, the operation of a handle m effects through suitable levers the raising and lowering of the fuse bases on a, fixed guide post h. The fuse bases may be similarly raised and lowered by parallel link mechanism or by screw and nut gearing. In a further embodiment shown in Fig. 6 the fuse bases remain vertical while the cover d is being raised, the framework a<1> being pivoted at its upper end to brackets r, its lower end carrying rollers s<2> guided in suitable slots s<1> in fixed plates s. The brackets r may afterwards be raised further by rotation of a screwed rod r<2>. The lid d is held open by a detent t<4> held by a spring t<3> in engagement with a recess in a rod t hinged to the cover. Current is led to the fuses &c. by means of flexible leads having sufficient slack to permit of the movements of the' electrical units.
