Abstract
272,161. Westinghouse Brake & Saxby Signal Co., (Assignees of Loomis, H. S.). June 3, 1926, [Convention date]. Electrical systems, automatic.-The coil 5 of a track electromagnet 4 co-operating inductively with train-carried apparatus is energized by a circuit which includes only a battery G, a controlling contact 8 and a relay J upon which the operation of the track signals is dependent. Each block comprises also a track relay R, a line relay H and a three-position semaphore S. The circuit of a line relay is closed, when the block the next ahead is clear, through contacts L at the signal which are closed when the semaphore is at either "safety" or "caution" and contacts 11 of the track relay of that section. When both track and line relays are energized, the circuits; 5 of the electromagnet 4 is closed at 8 and its relay J closes contacts 20, 23. The safety position circuit of the semaphore is thereby made via battery P, contact 16, contacts 17, 22, contacts 23, 20, contacts 25 and return lead 14. When the track relay the next ahead is short-circuited the circuit of the line relay is broken and the armature of the latter breaks the circuit of the electromagnet 5 at 8 and the safety position circuit of the semaphore at 25. The "caution" position circuit of the semaphore is then operative via the back-contacts 17, 18 and 19. 20, and contact 16 of the track relay. Both operative circuits of the semaphore on occupied block are broken at the contact 16 of the track relay.
