Capsules and the like, applying.-Relates to machines for crimping plastic caps on bottles of the type in which the caps are delivered from a stacker successively to a heater and thence to a crimping die, and consists in delivering the caps across the table 56 from a magazine 57. Fig. 2, to the heating chamber 49 by a pivoted arm 43 and transferring them to the crimping die 7 by a pivoted arm 41. The table 56 forms the bottom of the magazine 57 and the heater 49, the sides of which are cut away to facilitate the operation of the arms 43, 41. The crimper is operated by a hand-lever 1 through a forked lever 2 connected by links 3 to the crimper-plate 4. Fingers 11 with rollers at their extremities are pivotally mounted in the plate 4 and are kept in contact with the plunger 12 by a. coiled spring 13. The bottles are centered bv a series of pivoted levers on the underside of the die 7. The crimper is slidably mounted in the support 31 and the plunger 12 has an additional sliding movement in the sleeve 30. A spring 8 tends to keep the die 7 in contact with the rollers on the fingers 11. An adjustable support 19 and guide 19<a> are provided for the bottle to be capped and on moving the lever 1 from position I to II, Fig. 1, in the direction of the arrow, the crimper and die descend on to the top of the bottle. The die 7 is pushed down over the top of the bottle while the die 12 forces the centre of the cap into the neck of the bottle. The cap is then drawn between the die and the rollers and a corrugated appearance imparted thereto. The movements of the arms 41, 43 are effected bv moving the lever 1 from position II to III and back to position II, Fig. 1. A spring-pressed heating plate is provided in the chamber 49 to ensure uniform heating of the cap, and is lifted out of contact with the cap by a cam on the arm 44 when the cap is about to be transferred to the die 7. A fuel tank 61 is provided on the underside of the table 56, having a filler plug 58, and is connected by piping to a burner 59. Heated air passes from a chimney 63 to the heating chamber through a hole in the table 56. In operation, when the lever 1 is moved from position I to II, the crimper and die are raised, and while at rest at II the uncapped bottle is placed on the support 19. From II to III a hot cap is transferred from the heating chamber to the die. From III to II a cold cap is taken from the magazine to the heater and from II to I a hot cap is crimped on the bottle. At rest at I the crimped cap is cooling and another being heated.
