271,224. Pugh, Ltd., C. H., and Starkey, E. W. April 19, 1926. Lawn-mowers; lawns &c., removing leaves and rubbish from.-In lawn-mowers and sweeping or collecting machines comprising a passage or conduit leading to a bag or receptacle and rotary paddles or blades for causing the grass &c. to be conveyed through the conduit, movable means are provided for preventing the grass &c. from being carried round with the paddles &c. and for directing it into the conduit. The conduit 3 communicates with an open-fronted box 1 arranged to receive the material thrown up by the cutters or brush. Through the box extends a shaft 8 carrying curved blades 7 which feed the material to the bottom of the conduit, a rising and falling plate 11 being provided to remove the material from the blades 7 and direct it into the conduit 3. The front plate 5 of the conduit 3 is removable and the upper end of the conduit is curled over so as to discharge the grass &c. into a bag hooked on to it and resting on a platform. The shaft 8 is driven from the travelling wheels of the machine and carries a cam 14 for actuating the plate 11. This plate 11 is curved as shown and is carried by arms 12 provided with trunnions 13, on one of which is an arm carrying a roller 15 held in contact with the cam 14 by a spring. The outer edge of the plate 11 may be serrated. It bears against, or lies close to, the curved face of each blade 7 as it moves upwards. If the plate 11 fails to descend at the proper time, the cam 14 engages a roller on another arm on the trunnion 13 and forces it down. The box 1 and conduit 3 may be carried by angle-iron members 20, 21 adapted to be adjustably connected to the machine.
