Abstract
270,423. Marks, E. C. R., (Barber-Colman Co.). Feb. 9, 1926. Creel arrangements; skewers; thread-guides.- In machines for winding yarns &c. means are provided for withdrawing the support, such as a bobbin skewer, from an exhausted supply bobbin a, Fig. 7, inserting it in a reserve supply bobbin b and repositioning it so that the winding may be continued from the bobbin b. The invention is described as applied to a winding-machine provided with a mechanism I which travels along the machine and operates upon each winding unit, for example as described in Specification 156,607. A rack 88 is depressed, as by a cam bar J on the travelling mechanism, and rotates a shaft 34 which carries a crank pin with a cam portion 30, Fig. 13, so that the support 17 for the supply bobbin is moved longitudinally and pivotally as shown in Fig. 7. When the shaft 34 begins to rotate a central spindle 22, Fig. 13, is moved against the action of a spring 27 by the cam portion 30 and fingers 19 are withdrawn, thus freeing the bobbin, which, upon further withdrawal of the support, topples and falls through the open rear side of the compartment 4. During the completion of the rotation of the shaft 34 the support pivots on pins 37 and is entered into the reserve full bobbin h, and the fingers 19 are released and the bobbin b passed between spring-controlled gates 5 into the operative posttion. The rack 38 is moved away from the pinions on the shaft 34, when the pinions have nearly completed a revolution, by the engagement of a lug 46 on the shaft with a shoulder 48 on the rack, and continued movement of the rack engages fingers 50 with the pinions to prevent overrunning. Should the pinions overrun, the pressure of the teeth forces the rack against a stop 51. The rack is retracted by a spring 41, the teeth being withheld from the pinions by the contact of the lug 46 with a surface 47 on the rack, until the lug rides over the shoulder 49; rotation of tha pinions is prevented during this movement by a pawl 53. To prevent upward movement of the travelling mechanism out of its normal path if the rotation of the pinions is resisted by the jamming of a bobbin and the full descent of the rack, which in these circumstances jumps the pinions, is prevented by the consequent fouling of the fingers 50 and the pinions, a fixed guide bar 55 is provided to deflect the rack if the lug 46 does not operate to move it; normally, in such circumstances the rack 45 will jump into and out of engagement with the pinions. A thread guide is mounted in the top wall of the compartment 4 and comprises a member having an eye with a flared entrance 12, Fig. 9, and guard fingers 13, and a slot is formed in the top wall to permit the leading of the reserve thread to the guide.
