Statistical machines. - In a machine such as that described in Specification 258,607, dealing with code cards, improved means are provided for translating the code readings to the ordinary digital rotation 0 - - 9, the cards preferably being read in motion. As in the prior case the code reading is retained in the machine, and employed to reverse the closure and opening of certain of the normally closed contacts 100, and normally open contacts 102, the brush arms 110 subsequently sweeping over the conducting strips 108 and completing the circuit operating the counter clutch at the correct differential time according to the contacts 100 which have been opened. Fig. 7 illustrates the strips 108 of Fig. 6, in a straight form for clarity, the brushes A, B, C, D being connected electrically in pairs as shown. If desired, a pin-box of well-known kind may be employed to operate switches such as 100 mechanically. In the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) a modification, Fig. 8 (Cancelled), is described in which the brushes A, B, C, D and contacts 102 are dispensed with and the contacts 100 are moved bodily and successively over contact blocks 108 set in an insulation base. In a further modification, Fig. 9 (Cancelled) instead of moving the contacts 100, individual brushes 200 are moved in line over strips 108 and 101. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
