Finger stalls; hand coverings.-A shield for protecting the hand during operations such as bread cutting comprises a thumb-covering part 4 made, preferably, of thin sheet metal and a crutchcovering part 2. The part 2 is suitably curved to correspond with the crutch part of the hand and is curved at the top 6 to deflect a slipping knife. A finger-covering part 3 may be also incorporated in the device, and the surfaces at 7 may be roughened or embossed.
