Indicators actuated by pressure of head of Liquid.-A liquid-level indicator applicable to the fuel tank 1 of a motor vehicle and cf the kind in which the pressure of the air in the upper part 6 of a partitioned inverted bell 9 immersed in the liquid is utilized to indicate the level of the liquid on a gauge 15 mounted on the dashboard of the vehicle, consists in the provision of reservoirs 21 - - 24 secured to the upper ends of tubes 25 - - 27 which communicate with the space beneath the partition in the bell, the reservoirs being alternately exposed to the air in the tank and filled with liquid due to the agitation of the surface of the liquid by the motion of the vehicle. After the filling of the reservoirs, the subsequent fall in the level of the liquid in the tank effects a corresponding fall of the level in the tubes and the carriage of the air trapped in the inverted cups 29 to the space beneath the partition in the bell from which the air passes through the orifice 8 in the partition so as to maintain the requisite quantity of air in the upper part of the bell. The lower end of the bell is provided with a fuel strainer and a fuel suction pipe 16 and the upper part with an air relief pipe 13 the lower end of which is located in a recess in the partition of the bell. In a modification, the lower part of the bell is formed with a partition for separating the reservoir tubes from the fuel suction tube which is located at the side of the bell and formed with a lateral opening 49 communicating with the lower part of the bell. In another arrangement, the reservoirs are of greater diameter but shallower than in the previously described arrangements and are formed with depressions in their peripheries so as to accommodate the fuel suction pipe.
