Abstract
267,613. Calvert, W. J. R. Dec. 18, 1925. Systems of charging and discharging galvanic batteries; running generators in series; switching systems. - An arrangement of switches and a distribution board whereby one or more work circuits may be connected in series with one or more groups of sources of e.m.f,, such as storage cells or dynamos with or without polarization cells for voltage regulation. A charging dynamo may be connected to each group of storage cells independently as shown in Fig. 1. Each group of eight cells 1A - - 6A is connected at its positive end to a terminal +A1 - - +A6 on a distribution switch board and at the negative end to a selector switch A1 - - A6 whereby it may be (1) independently connected to distribution board terminals -A1 - - -A6, (2) connected in one or more independent series with any selected group or groups or (3) connected in series with one or other of a number of regulating switches B' - - B<3> arranged to place in series any number from none to eight of unformed lead-acid cells. The referred to and plug-ended flexible leads P1 - - 3B on the distribution switch board. This board preferably comprises sockets for the terminals inferred to and plug-erded flexible leads P1 - - P5 and D for the separate work and dynamo circuits. The arrangement is such that the positive plugs cannot reach negative sockets and vice versa and the dynamo plugs cannot reach the Rockets 1B - - 3B. The dynamo plugs are shaped to fit only special sockets connected to each of the terminals -A1 &c. +A1 &c. so that charging current cannot pass through the regulating cells. By using an auxiliary distribution board which may be connected by flexible plug leads to the regulated terminals a number of work circuits may be paralleled on any battery circuit. An arrangement is also described by which two systems of the kind described may be used in combination, a single charging dynamo serving both.
