Abstract

266,760. Goldberg & S÷hne, Ges., M. J. Dec. 11, 1924, [Convention date]. Condensers have the variation in capacity effected by the action of heat, the arrangement being particularly adapted to fire alarms, especially those which operate wirelessly. In one form, Fig. 1, the fixed plate 270 is mounted on an insulating frame and the movable one 272 is carried on a bimetallic strip 274. In another form, Fig. 2, the condenser is formed by mercury or an electrolyte in a glass type 279, and bv mercury or an electrolyte in another tube 280. insulating material 283 fills the lower part of the tube 280 which carries a coating 281 serving as a protection against heat radiation and extraneous electrical influences. The leads are connected to the mercury in tube 280 and to a coating 282 around the receptacle 278. In the modification shown in Fig. 3, a glass globe 286 contains a quantity of electrolyte 287 below which dips a tube 289 carrying a coating 290. The capacity is varied by expansion of the air or gas in the globe above the electrolyte driving the latter up the tube, the sensitiveness being increased by more or less tilting the apparatus. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states also that instead of the condenser being responsive to the temperature of the surrounding air, the heat-sensitive elements may be influenced by a heating coil surrounding the members 274, 278, and 286, the current through the coil being measured by the capacity. Further, the invention is applicable to electrically measuring continuously varying temperature. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
