Embossing-surfaces. - A die for embossing pleated or other fabrics or materials is formed of a number of die elements a, Fig. 1, detachably secured on a base b which is grooved as at m or otherwise marked out to facilitate the formation of the desired pattern. The base b may be a sheet of suitable fibrous compound or other suitable substance which is supported upon a metal or other surface, and to which the die elements are secured by cement or otherwise so as to be easily stripped therefrom to form another pattern, or the elements may be attached directly to the metal surface by any suitable metal-uniting method. The die elements can be made by cutting pieces, such as c - - g, Fig. 4, from metal bars having various cross-sections.
