Abstract

264,859. Silica Gel Corporation, (Assignees of Miller, E. B., and Edel, W. L.). Oct. 28, 1925, [Convention date]. Refrigerating, vacuum machines and processes for. -- In refrigerating systems wherein the vapour of a liquid such as water or brine is adsorbed in a highly porous solid adsorbent such as silica gel, as described in Specifications 225,191 and 228,136, the adsorbers are formed of elements such as round tubes 81, Figs. 2 and 3, depending from headers 80, or flat hollow plates connected in series at their upper ends, the adsorbent material being arranged in thin layers adjacent the walls of the elements, as by the employment of gauze sleeves 82 arranged centrally in the tubes or plates. The apparatus comprises two adsorber sections A, B, Fig. 1, mounted on a rocking frame C, as set forth in Specification 260,542. The adsorbers are mounted in open-ended heat-insulated casings 28, which alternately form flues for hot gases when located over the heater 51, and flues for inducing a flow of cooling-air around the adsorbers when located away from the heater.
